Sustainability

For the Berlin Wholesale Market, sustainable business management isn’t an advertising slogan – it’s a genuine concern and a genuine locational advantage. Targeted and long-term operational cost management enhances the Berlin Wholesale Market’s economic attractiveness while simultaneously serving climate protection in our region. That is why the Berlin Wholesale Market has spent years focusing on an economically viable advancement of its infrastructure: In 2012, it cooperated with Berliner Energieagentur GmbH to develop Berlin’s largest photovoltaic roof system over a surface of nearly 40,000 square meters, providing a total of 1,600 megawatts of electricity every year. As energy prices continue to rise, using one’s own electricity at stable prices will become a genuine economic alternative in the foreseeable future. Aside from that, this system prevents 800 tonnes of CO2.

With energy prices on the rise, the local use of generated electricity at stable prices is a genuine economic alternative in the foreseeable future. Aside from that, it prevents 800 tonnes of CO2 per year. More projects will follow.

That our partners say:
In Berlin more and more energy is being generated locally, efficiently and in an environmentally sound way – with the help of the city’s largest rooftop solar system at the Berlin Wholesale Market. This system produces electricity to power the equivalent of 700 homes. It is an excellent illustration of the huge and, above all, economically viable renewable energy potential lying dormant in industrial estates, in particular, and especially on the roofs of industry and service buildings. The Berlin Wholesale Market has led the way in tapping into this potential.
