A heaven for specialty foods, Berlin's
most attractive weekly market, the equivalent of
the KaDeWe department store in Kreuzberg, the pleasure
hall - only a small selection of terms that people
have used time and again to refer to the market
hall at Marheinekeplatz in Kreuzberg. Somehow, each
term accurately describes certain aspects of the
market hall, but no term is able to capture its
entire essence.
Starting in mid 2010, it will become
a glass radio studio,
and also - virtually at the same time - a cook's
paradise featuring its own professionally equipped
kitchen; it also is an event location, and it
attracts many tourists from abroad. Just like
a real market hall should.
Between 4,000 and 6,000 visitors per day prove
that market halls, provided they satisfy modern
standards and observe sustainability principles
to the same extent as the market hall in Kreuzberg,
